Infant osteopathy in Vendôme: colic, torticollis and sleep disorders
Does your baby cry a lot, sleep poorly, struggle to turn their head to one side, or suffer from colic? Paediatric osteopathy can provide real help in these situations. Here is what this approach can do for your infant.
Why see an osteopath for a baby?
Birth is a physically intense event for the newborn. Whether it involves a long labour, an instrumental delivery (forceps, ventouse) or a caesarean section, the baby's skull, neck and pelvis can retain residual tensions that disrupt their daily comfort.
These tensions can manifest as:
- Colic: inconsolable crying, legs pulled up to the belly
- Torticollis: the baby tilts or turns their head to one side only
- Plagiocephaly: flattening on one side of the skull
- Difficulty feeding or latching
- Sleep disorders or persistent agitation
- Frequent regurgitation
A gentle, adapted approach
Paediatric osteopathy is regularly praised by parents who notice improvements in colic, torticollis and sleep disorders after a few sessions. The techniques used for infants are entirely different from those used for adults.
At what age can you consult?
There is no minimum age. Infants can be seen from the first days of life. Generally speaking, the earlier the treatment, the more supple and receptive the structures are.
What does a session for an infant look like?
The duration of the session varies depending on the child and their situation. The osteopath first assesses the child by observing their posture, spontaneous movements and reactions. Treatment consists of very light contacts on the skull, spine and pelvis. Most babies relax and even fall asleep during the session.
A parent is always present. Feel free to breastfeed or offer a dummy if the baby is unsettled.
How many sessions are needed?
This depends on each child and their situation. Cécile Arnoux assesses progress at each consultation and adapts the follow-up accordingly. If results are slow to appear, she will refer you to your paediatrician to rule out other causes.
